Automation Science and Engineering
August 23-27, 2021
Lyon, France

Welcome Message

Welcome to IEEE CASE2021

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our pleasure to welcome all participants and friends to the 17th International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE2021) to be held on August 23-27, 2021. CASE2021 comes for the first time to France and is organized by Ecole des Mines de Saint Etienne and INSA-Lyon. The theme of the conference is data-driven automation. The conference, sponsored by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), is the leading automation conference and constitutes the primary forum for cross-industry and multidisciplinary research in automation.

With steady expansion of CASE since 2005, how to make CASE2021 successful in the context of Covid-19 was a real challenge. In order to offer exciting real conference experiences, especially for young researchers, CASE2021 consistently aims to primarily be a face-to-face conference to be held in the beautiful and lively city of Lyon with online participation for those who cannot travel to Lyon. The CASE community has been strongly mobilized with record submissions from over 40 countries including 5 workshop proposals, 33 special sessions, 592 full papers among which 114 joint RAL/CASE ones, 386 full papers, and 102 presentation only papers.

The final program of CASE2021 offers everything you can expect from a high standing international conference with:

  • A rich scientific program of 435 papers, 336 full papers and 99 presentation only papers, spread over 11 parallel sessions, with a broad coverage and dissemination of academic and applied research in automation science and technology in all areas of our societies;
  • Keynote talks by world class scholars and a wide industry panel with global enterprises on how data-driven automation have reshaped the research landscape;
  • Five workshops on hot topics in data-driven automation;
  • Technical tours of SNCF-Technicentre and Volvo Trucks;
  • Real conference experiences whatever your participation mode;
  • And last, but definitely not least, face-to-face discussions and a rich social program in the nice city of Lyon.

We are grateful to the entire CASE community: To the authors for submitting their papers to CASE2021 and to the reviewers and the editorial teams of CASE and RAL for the efficient and quality evaluation of the very large number of papers in compressed time. Finally, we would like to thank the organizing committee and the volunteers for their hard work to make the hybrid CASE2021 conference possible in the context of Covid-19.

Looking forward to meeting you at CASE2021 in person or online,
